CEB’s Rs. 93 Bn debt to CPC: Prez orders Treasury to provide funds

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has ordered the Treasury to provide Rs. 93 billion to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) so that it can settle its outstanding payments owed to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) for fuel.

Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila confirmed the same today (24).

He also remarked that the Sapugaskanda Power Plant will restart its operations by the end of this month.

Earlier today, Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge had assured that following a meeting with the President, no power cuts would be imposed today.

This comes after the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Union announced that one hour power cuts will occur today (24) from 5.30PM.

The Union has stated that this is due to manual load shedding as the Sapugaskanda power plants are unavailable.
