400 sheds temporarily closed – Fuel station owners

President of the Fuel Station Owners Association says that due to the new payment system introduced by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), around 400 fuel stations around the country have to be temporarily closed.

CPC has recently introduced a new payment system that requires payment on the previous day for the stock of fuel ordered.

Kumar Rajapaksha, the President of the association pointed out that although the CPC has stipulated that fuel stations should pay for the fuel stock before 9:30 pm the previous day in order to get the fuel stock the next day, it is difficult to do so.

He further said that if the fuel shed owners fail to pay before 9:30 pm, they will not get fuel the next day. Due to this, some shed had to be temporarily closed and due to this long queuesin fuel stations have re-emerged.

He also stated that although LIOC fuel stations have followed a similar payment system, they have been given time till 12 midnight and if CPC also follows the same, it will be convenient for the petrol station owners.

Although the amount of fuel distributed by CPC was limited to 4000 MT of diesel and 3000 MT of petrol, Rajapakse said that the amount of fuel distributed per day should be increased as the country is returning to normalcy. ( NewsWire)
