The Sri Lanka College of Psychiatrists refute Media Propoganda about Drugs over Mahara Prison Issue

The Sri Lanka College of Psychiatrists (SLCP) has rejected claims that drugs used for psychiatric practice induces violent behaviour in those consuming it.

The claims were made following the recent unrest at the Mahara Prison, with Police investigations revealing that a number of inmates had behaved in an unruly manner after abusing a stock of drug used for psychiatric treatment kept at the prison hospital.

Issuing a statement, the Sri Lanka College of Psychiatrists said none of these drugs are responsible for violent or aggressive behaviour and in fact it promotes calmness and causes mild drowsiness.
