Dr. Saman Ratnayake, Deputy Director General of Research and Training, Ministry of Health, said that approval has been granted to five new government hospitals and five new private hospitals to conduct PCR tests to increase the number of PCR tests currently being conducted.

Currently there is facilities to conduct between 13,000 and 14,000 PCR tests per day and it is planned to raise the limit to 20,000 in the future, he said.
