“This is a joke: Don’t create unnecessary problems” Cardinal opposes banning BBS: Appoints a committe to study Easter Sunday report

Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith says that he opposes recommendations made by the Presidential Commission report on Easter Sunday Attack to ban Buddhist rights groups.

Speaking to media in Colombo this afternoon he said some of the recommendations by the Commission are creating a conflict between Buddhist and Catholic harmony in the country.

Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Easter Sunday Attack has recommended to ban hard-line Sinhala Buddhist organization, Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) and intitiating leagl actions on some of the Sinhala Buddhist organisations that had links to violence.

Cardinal blames the previous government for the Easter Sunday Attack and current government for failing to deliver the justice for victims.

Archdiocese of Colombo has planned a Black Sunday on 7 March to express it’s protest on delaying the justice for victims.

Cardinal Ranjith said that he appointed a committee comprising senior priests to study the PCoI report, which was handed over to him yesterday by the President’s office.
