Foreign Secretary Admiral (Rtd) Prof. Jayanath Colombage has said in order to compensate for the issues that came up with the ECT, the President offered the West Container Terminal which is a much better deal.
The Foreign Secretary speaking to StratNews Global said “When the President was compelled, I use the word compelled because of the public pressure coming from the Trade Unions not to give the East Container Terminal to anyone. He had to give in to the pressure or the peoples’ power.”
“I think he (President) had the option, the West Container terminal. It is much longer, much wider, it has more space, and it is not built,” he added.
