Government politicised NMRA -Manusha

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya charges that the government has politicised operations at the National Medicines Regulatory Authority, the institution which reaches decisions regarding medicines brought down to the country.

Speaking during a conference in Kegalle Parliamentarian Manusha Nanayakkara said the government had no concern for people’s lives.

He claimed when experts at the National Medicines Regulatory Authority refused to approve China’s Sinopharm vaccine which has not been approved by the World Health Organization, they were asked to resign from their posts.

MP Nanayakkara said four professors, doctors and specialists accordingly resigned stating that they couldn’t approve the vaccine.

He noted thereafter a doctor residing overseas who is also the son of the former Chairman of the Southern Provincial Council was appointed as the Chairman of the NMRA, following which approval was granted to bring down the vaccine./NR
