Lifetime payment for war veterans next of kin

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa says a Cabinet paper has been tabled before the Cabinet of Ministers to grant permission to allow lifetime payment of salaries and allowances to the next of kin of disabled war veterans, after their demise.

The President noted it will allow dependants of war veterans to continue to receive the allowance for a lifetime, following their demise.

The President’s Media Division said the Head of State made these remarks during an Advisory Committee meeting of the Ministry of Defence at the Parliamentary complex yesterday.

President Rajapaksa said there is no need for families of war veterans to protest to fulfil their demands adding that protests are staged with a different motive.

Meanwhile the President said plans are underway to establish 196 new Police Stations in various parts of the country based on requirements.

The Head of State added 10,000 new male and female officers will also be recruited in order to widen the Police force.(NR)
