Three-wheeler drivers and motorcyclists violating the traffic lane rules within the Colombo city limits will be directed to the awareness classes on road discipline conducted by the Sri Lanka police, Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon said yesterday.
Speaking to the media while supervising the re-launch of the traffic lane rule and the bus priority lane in Colombo, he said the law will be strictly enforced against the motorists for violating these rules after the three-day trial period ends tomorrow.
The re-implementation of the traffic lane rule and the bus priority lane in Colombo in the post COVID-19 period commenced from the Parliament Road, Galle Road, High-Level Road and Baseline Road yesterday. Nearly 1,500 officers including 150 women officers had been deployed along these roads to control the traffic by the police. According to Tennakoon, the drivers would not be penalized for the violation of the rule during the trial period as they are being practiced to adhere to it and law will be strictly enforced after some time.
