Professor WD Lakshman officially announces that he will be stepping down as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, next week.
“I am retiring from the post on September 14.” he announced during a press briefing today.
Prof. WD Lakshman said that although he got an offer to join IMF but he will not accept that lucrative offer.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed Prof. WD Lakshman as the 15th Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka in December 2019.
80 year old Professor Lakshman is a well-known economist who served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo from 1994 to 1999. In 2005, he was awarded the “Deshamanya” title for his contributions to the academic field.
State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal is likely to take over the vacant position.
